TIPS FOR LONG LASTING CANDLES
Care & Safety
To properly care for a soy wax candle, always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before lighting, burn it until a full melt pool forms, and avoid drafts and overheating by keeping it away from windows, fans, and air vents.
Here’s a more detailed guide:
Before Burning:
- Trim the wick:
Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch to prevent soot and ensure a clean, even burn.
- Choose a safe location:
Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, flammable materials, and children/pets.
- Initial Burn:
For the first burn, allow the candle to burn until a full melt pool forms across the entire surface, which typically takes 2-3 hours, or 1 hour per inch of candle diameter.
- Avoid long burns:
Don’t burn the candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time to prevent overheating and uneven burning.
While Burning:
- Maintain a clean burn:
Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch to prevent soot and ensure a clean burn.
- Avoid drafts:
Keep the candle away from drafts, windows, fans, and air vents to prevent uneven burning and soot.
- Extinguish properly:
Use a candle snuffer or dip the wick into the wax to extinguish the flame, rather than blowing it out.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended:
Always supervise a burning candle and ensure it is extinguished before leaving the room.
After Burning:
- Allow to cool completely: Let the candle cool completely before handling or moving it.
- Store properly: Store the candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve the fragrance and prevent wax discoloration.
- Reusing the jar: Once the candle is finished, you can easily clean and reuse or recycle the container.
Additional Tips:
- Changes to the appearance of your candle is natural:
Soy wax candles may develop a slight “frosting” or discoloration on the surface, which is normal and does not affect the quality of the candle.
- Don’t burn a candle all the way down:
Always leave a small amount of wax in the jar to prevent accidents and ensure a safe burn.
- Follow the burning instructions on the caution sticker:
Some candles may have specific burning instructions on a sticker located on the bottom of the jar.
